Nowadays Greece is a Christian country, despite the long Muslim Turkish domination in the Balkans, nowadays the Orthodox religion is dominant, with about 97% of the Greek population being members of it.

Before the wedding, the groom waits for the bride at the church door. This way they enter together, holding hands and carrying white candles. During the ceremony, crowns are placed on them because they are the kings of their family.

Greeks are known for being very family orientated, most businesses and olive groves are family run and passed down from father to son and the Greek cuisine is considered to be one of the tastiest, with dinner being the most important meal of the day.

For Greeks it is important to share meals with family and friends, it is a social event that takes place regularly. The diet of the Greeks is Mediterranean, so it is rich in vegetables and greens in addition to olive oil. Greeks do not greet each other with an open hand because they consider it rude. To greet each other, they shake hands, except with friends and family who kiss or hug.

This charming nation is very conservative, making the typical day of a Greek very quiet, which may be controversial to some, but to them it is completely normal and desirable. In Greece, you don’t willingly change your habits that usually last a lifetime and an early morning and a delicious strong coffee to start the day I think is the perfect start to the day for most Greeks. At Christmas time, children go around the houses and sing carols in exchange for sweets or money. They usually accompany their singing with small percussion instruments.
