Strictly protected wolves, brown bears, lynx, grizzlies and wild boars live in the north of the country. Typically European species of foxes, badgers, squirrels, hares and hedgehogs complete this landscape of small game.

4.Reptiles

Greece, being a hot and rocky country, provides an excellent ecosystem for various kinds of reptiles. The most numerous are lizards.

In the areas of the islands you can meet, for example, Rhodian dragons (agamas).  We should not be surprised to visit a gecko in a Greek dwelling house, because it happens very often. However, fortunately it is not dangerous, but it is great at dealing with all kinds of mosquitoes and insects.

On the Aegean islands you’ll find colorful chameleons and snakes lurking in the bushes, most of which are not venomous. Greece is also home to many species of turtles, both aquatic and terrestrial.

5.Insects

Speaking about the Greek fauna one cannot forget about the insects, which are small in number but perfectly make up for it. Beetles, grasshoppers, crickets and cicadas are very numerous here. Maybe someone will spot a praying mantis camouflaging perfectly among the grasses. The Greek forests, meadows and coasts are enchanted by the colorful parades of butterflies
