The history of viticulture in Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Viticulture in Friuli-Venezia Giulia has always been followed by Romans, Byzantines, Venetians and Habsburgs. The territory was conquered by the Romans, who called it Forum Julii. Production expanded several times under Venetian and Habsburg rule, until the arrival of phylloxera in 1800. In Friuli there are many varieties of excellent wines.
